Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola, has insisted that it is not important when they clinch the Bundesliga, after they edged closer to retaining the title on Saturday.
Mario Mandzukic and Bastian Schweinsteiger scored for the home side, as they went 23 points clear at the top with a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund were beaten earlier by Borussia Mochengladbach.
The Bavarians have now gone 50 games unbeaten in the league and can seal a record 24th Bundesliga title next weekend, if they beat Mainz and both Dortmund and Schalke fail to win.
“It’s not important when we win the league, it’s important to keep our performances levels high,” Guardiola said after the match.
“In the first half we were lucky. Now we need one or two more games to defend the title, but we must continue to focus and uphold our concentration.”
The former Barcelona manager was not completely satisfied with his side’s performance and said they play was too one-directional.
“We should have played more on the wings and not so much through the centre,” he added.
