Unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen Sunday stormed Rantya Lowcost community of Jos metropolis and shot sporadically at worshippers in the churches in the area.
The gunmen numbering about 100 looked ready for a massacre, but military men in the area took up the challenge and successfully repelled the attackers.
A security man with one of the churches told journalists that the incident occurred at about 10am when most of the churches were just about to commence service, adding that suddenly the gunmen who descended from the hills pounced on the community and shot at hundreds of worshippers in the churches.
He added that they were swiftly repelled by men of the Special Task Force (STF), who shot back at the attackers.
