Multichoice/DSTV deny owing Nollywood actors’ royalties

A Subscribers’ Management Company, MultiChoice Nigeria, has denied owing artistes their royalties for airing their films on DSTV and GOTV.

The General Manager of GOTV Nigeria, Mrs Elizabeth Amkpa, stated this on Tuesday at a press conference on the launch of the product in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Claiming that the parent-company had been carrying out its Corporate Social Responsibilities, Amkpa said Multichoice will not drag its name in the mud by denying actors and actresses their entitlements.
She explained that GOTV was launched in order to enable Nigeria meet the 2015 deadline for migration to digital broadcast, as an option to DSTV at affordable prices and using latest Digital Video Broadcast.
“It is affordable, offers crystal clear pictures, quality sound system and more channels than what the DSTV offered,” she said.

According to her, GOTV has been in operation in 26 states having been flagged off in October 2011, adding that “with GOTV, Digital Video Broadcast has come to stay in Ekiti. The decoder cost just N6,900 with 41 channels.”

To fulfill its CSR, Amkpa said Multichoice had resource centres in schools across Nigeria, with awards to encourage interests in science subjects, and had also been in partnership with a sickle cell foundation among other roles.
