Justin Bieber is set to star in a Hollywood blockbuster about Real Madrid.

The Canadian superstar is in the final stages of talks to appear alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and a host of the world’s most famous players in a sensational new film with a budget of around £100m.

Bieber, 22, who plays V Festival’s Chelmsford site tomorrow, would star as a young player from Los Angeles, who is plucked from obscurity and becomes an overnight sensation with the world’s most famous club.

The project, backed by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein , begins shooting in March 2017 with Real allowing the filming at their world-famous Bernabeu stadium and during some matches.

The film would follow on from the trio of Goal movies made from 2005-2009 and is said to be a reboot of the franchise with Mike Jefferies, producer of the original films, involved again.

A source said: “The film is well into the pre-production stages and the hope is that Bieber will sign on in the coming weeks.

"It is a great opportunity for him and could be one of the biggest films of 2017 if all of his fans and the fans of Ronaldo go to the cinema.”

Bieber has a long-held and well-known passion for football, having trained with Barcelona and Chelsea in the past.

The new movie is scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2017, ahead of the following summer’s World Cup in Russia.
