Bed bugs are parasitic animals that feed mainly on human blood and have an average lifespan of 8-10 months.
Exposing them to colder temperatures only extends their lifespan, they simply hibernate and go into the deep sleep. On the other hand, exposing them to hotter temperatures reduces their life span to about 6 months.
Mainly active at night when they feed, their bites often times resembled that of mosquito bites. These bloodsuckers have grown resistant to pesticides which have primarily been the most effective means to manage them, but that doesn’t mean all hope’s lost.
These predators have a few strengths and weaknesses you could capitalise on.
1. Colours
Colours attract them and at the same time wave them off. It’s been clinically proven that the colours Red and Black are a huge attraction. Obviously red signifies blood.
On a contrast, other bright colours like Yellow, Green and White wave them off. I guess it’s time to change those sheets for all of you who love black sheets.
2. Temperatures
The heat blowing and drying method is another way to get rid of them. It’s not enough to just take your mattress out and expose it to the sun. Using a hand dry or a washing machine at above 50 degrees for over 2 minutes should work.
3. Biological predators
Introducing cockroaches, ants, and spiders are biological ways of eliminating them. These sets of predators feed on them, but then you’re left with another issue, getting rid of the predators.
