Champions League: Barcelona, PSG progress; City, Leverkusen eliminated

Lionel Messi and Dani Alves scored for Barcelona, to ensure the Catalans beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Nou Camp and 4-1 on aggregate, to qualify for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The former English champions travelled to Spain, seeking to overcome a two-goal deficit and qualify for the last eight of the competition, but failed to score in the first half. It was the home team who came closest to registering a goal, but had a goal chalked off for offside and a strong case for a penalty waved aside.
However, Messi capitalized on a Joleon Lescott error, to dink the ball unerringly over Joe Hart. Vincent Kompany made it 1-1 in the 89th minute, but there was still enough time for Alves to bundle in the winner.

In the other game, PSG defeated 10-man Bayer Leverkusen 2-1, to qualify with a 6-1 aggregate score.
