Life does not come without hardship, disappointments and suffering. But, just because life isn't perfect doesn't mean that we have to live in despair. We can have peace, even amid the difficulties in our lives.
1. Ask God for peace
God can't always take away the heavy burden you are carrying, but he can give you the strength to carry the weight. He will give you his peace as he said in John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Seek peace through prayer and God will send peace to your heart and mind to lift your spirits.
2. God will send the Holy Ghost to be with you
The Holy Ghost, referred to as the "Comforter" in John 14:26, can be the deliverer of peace as we seek God's hand to help overcome our trials. The Holy Ghost can give us comfort when we need it most, we just have to have faith and ask for it. Again, the trial may remain, but the burden will be eased and replaced with peace and strength to endure.
3. Believe God
David Bednar, former college professor, stated "Believing Him-accepting as true His power and promises-invites perspective, peace, and joy into our lives." As we come to understand God's promises and the power he willingly blesses us with, we can find peace in our lives because we know he will sustain us always, especially when we are suffering. We just have to have faith and believe in him.
4. Keeping the commandments and repentance brings peace
When we continually strive to keep the commandments and repent of our wrong doings, we can have peace of mind. We know God will help those who are striving to follow him. So, when we are in the midst of our trials, we know God is able to help us because we are more receptive to his assistance-we aren't likely to accept help from someone we don't believe and trust in. By keeping his commandments and repenting, we are prepared to receive his peace.
5. Choose to have a positive attitude
It's easy to be bogged down with negativity and how things are going wrong when we are suffering. However, if we choose to see the good amid the turmoil, we can have greater peace. For maximum happiness, peace and contentment, may we choose a positive attitude." We can't escape our trials, but we can choose our attitude during them. Seeking the good in everything can have a major impact on the peace we can find in our lives.
We can't avoid suffering-it's a standard part of life. So many things are out of our control, but we can control ourselves. We can find peace through prayer, the Holy Ghost, believing in God and in our behaviors and attitudes. Peace is given to those who seek it diligently. Life is hard, but peace can calm our minds and hearts.
