In its bid to enable retiring officers to live a happy life after public service and still contribute to the development of the nation, the Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has trained 62 retiring officers on various skills for self-reliance.

The Director-General, NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure announced this today at the four days 2018 Nationwide Pre-retirement Workshop for the staff of the scheme in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Kazaure who was represented by Mr. Abdurazak Salawu, Director, Human Resource Management of the Corps, stated that the workshop was in line with his agenda which is to continue to motivate staff through the provision of enhanced welfare.

“It is in this note that we have made deliberate efforts to ensure that we put in place a happy and well-motivated workforce. We have undertaken several workshops and training in order to enhance staff productivity.”

“I am delighted to note significant improvements in the overall performance of staff within the last two years. The 2018 pre-retirement workshop is a continuation of our endeavor.”

“This is specifically designed to tune your minds to the realities of life at the end of public service,” he added.

The Director-General then assured the participants that the necessary skills and knowledge given to them at the workshop would help them make informed decisions about their new phase of life after retirement.

“I would like to commend the Human Resource Management Department for the successful execution of previous programmes, and hope that this one will be better.”

“I thank the resource persons for honoring our invitation, and I hope that the participants will leverage their wealth of experience in planning for their tomorrow,” he said.

He noted that the growing complexity of Nigeria’s social-economic environment has made retirement planning one of the key concerns of corporate organizations globally, leading to the high premium placed on it.

He urged the participants to take full advantage of the workshop to prepare for a productive and happy retirement life.

“A practical way of motivating prospective retirees to look forward to a happy retirement is to expose them to a workshop like this where seasoned trainers are assembled to teach key knowledge and skills they would need to face the future with enthusiasm.”

“This workshop has been designed to expose participants to relevant skills and ideas that will enable them to properly manage their lives and remain relevant and health after retirement,” he said.
