I've retired from music - Eldee

Artiste and label boss, eLDee, has said there is no going back in his decision to exit the music stage after 16 active years as a performing artiste.

The 37-year old entertainer confirmed this via social media when asked if he still sings, saying: ‘I told y’all ‘Undeniable’ was my last studio album before it dropped. #IwasntJoking’.

The Trybe Records CEO dropped his fifth studio album, Undeniable in 2012 and has since remained quiet in the music industry. Eldee, whose real name is Lanre Dabiri, is a graduate of the University of Lagos where she studied Architecture and where the now defunct group, Trybesmen was formed in 1998 with his friend and fellow rappers, KB and Freestyle.

Trysbesmen, one of the pioneer hip hop groups in the Nigerian music industry, exploded on the music scene with their first single ‘Shake Bodi’ in the late 90’s and early 2000s, paving the way for them as a respected hip hop collective at a time just a few music heads were confident enough to put their verses into a song. Other singles for which Eldee (then known as Eldee tha Don) and his former members are still remembered include ‘Asiko l’aye’ and ‘Plenty Nonsense’ before the group was expanded to into a larger collective with new members like Sasha, 2Shortz, Blaize, Sid (now Dr Sid), Timi, Double O and others and then known as Da Trybe.

Eldee’s other albums in his solo career include Long Time Coming which was released in 2004, Return of the King in 2006 while his 3rd album, Big Boy dropped in 2008 and his fourth album, Is It Your Money was released in 2010. Eldee still runs his label, Trybe Records which used to have have acts such as Eva Alordiah and K9.
