Snapchat set to launch video recording sunglasses

Snapchat announced that it will launch a line of video recording sunglasses, a spin on the wearable technology, Glass, abandoned by Google about a year ago.

The company, which also announced it is changing its name to Snap Inc., said in an online post that its Spectacles will be ‘available soon’, with media reports putting the price at around $130 a pair.

According to a post by Team Snap (on Snapchat of course), the company has been working to develop a new type of wireless cameras that can record a full day’s worth of snaps on a single charge. ‘Spectacles are sunglasses with an integrated video camera that makes it easy to create Memories.’

The sunglasses connect to Snap software wirelessly using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connections.

Spectacles cameras take videos from the perspective of wearers, boast a 115-degree field of view, and capture snippets of video intended for sharing on the app.

Snap Inc. hopes that Spectacles would do better than Google’s Glass that was released in 2014 and was soon discontinued after a plethora of issues- not in the least the $1,500 price tag.
